International Code of Conduct

Ensuring Transparency, Oversight and Accountability

In November 2010, Triple Canopy became a signatory of the International Code of Conduct (ICoC) for Private Security Service Providers. This initiative aims to set global standards for the private security industry and establish independent mechanisms for effective governance and oversight.

The ICoC is the result of a multi-stakeholder initiative coordinated by private security companies, industry associations, civil society and individual business leaders with the assistance of the Government of Switzerland and in consultation with the governments of the United Kingdom and the United States.

Triple Canopy has participated in the effort to establish an international code of conduct since the development of the Montreaux Document in 2006, and even provided the company’s Code of Conduct to the Swiss government as a source document.

In his speech at the signing ceremony, Triple Canopy CEO Ignacio Balderas said he recognized that companies such as Triple Canopy operate at a higher standard than the industry at-large and that the industry needed a way to ensure that all security companies worldwide were committed to the same principles and held similar ethical and operational standards.

“Our next steps are to ensure that the Code gains worldwide acceptance and becomes an integral part of how the industry operates and how governments and clients select security providers,” said Balderas. “We must also work to ensure that transparency, oversight and accountability accompany the Code so that the full extent of its intent is shown.”
