Nacogdoches, TX — May 23, 2006 — The Texas Tactical Police Officers Association
recently announced that Nacogdoches was selected as the site for its prestigious 2006 SWAT competition.
More than 30 special weapons and tactics teams (SWAT) from Texas and the United States will compete in the four-day event set for September. The purpose of the competition is to encourage high standards of physical fitness as well as the exchange of ideas and techniques among tactical police officers.
"Nacogdoches has an excellent range facility," said Shannon Couch, president of the Texas Tactical Police Officers Association. "We are very excited about the competition."
The event will be hosted jointly by the Nacogdoches Police Department and Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office. The competition site will be provided by Paul Howe, owner of Combat Shooting and Tactics, and Triple Canopy, a security solutions company, headquartered in Herndon, Virginia.
Howe, who resides in Nacogdoches, specializes in teaching combat tactical training. He has more than 20 years of military experience including 10 years in the Army’s elite Special Operations Force. He is the author of

"We look forward to hosting this prestigious event in Nacogdoches," said Mike Kelly, assistance chief of police for the City of Nacogdoches. "It will be a high quality tactical training that will attract the top SWAT teams in the nation and possibly some national media coverage as well."
The event is expected to attract more than 300 people to Nacogdoches, according to Pam Fitch, director of the Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau. "We estimate an economic impact of more than $360,000 from this competition," she said.
